Devastation es fundado en la escena Death Metal de Chicago. La banda fue formada en Enero de 1986 por el Baterista Pat Buckley y el Guitarrista Erv Brautigam. Pero estas raices venian de Antes, Pat y Erv comenzaron a tocar juntos en 1984, en la banda Solemn. Despues de 2 años ellos quisieron tomar el unico estilo del thrashmetal para llevarlo a otro nivel, y dejar Solemn para formar una banda mas chacal pateacraneos. Esta banda seria conocida como Devastation.
Devastation esta principalmente influenciada por Classic Metal, Thrash Metal y Hardcore Punk. Bandas como Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, UFO, Saxon, Venom, Possessed, Slayer, Motorhead, Voivod, Dark Angel, Celtic Frost, Bathory, Cro-Mags, Agnostic Front, Gang Green, Misfits/Samhain, DRI, Discharge,GBH, Broken Bones, Ramones, etc...
Las letras son basadas en Violencia, Muerte y Destruccion
y solo sacaron 2 Demos
